A Nod is an iPhone app for the recommendations that come from people you know — books, films, shows, podcasts, music and games — kept with the person who gave them to you still attached.
Named for what you do when you mean it. To give something the nod is to vouch for it, and a recommendation from someone whose taste you trust is a different thing entirely from an algorithm’s guess. A Nod is built to keep that difference intact.
Who told you, and why
Every recommendation in A Nod carries the person who made it, and their own words about why. Not a star rating. Not a tag. The thing they actually said.
Months later, when you’re deciding what to read next, you aren’t staring at a list of titles you can no longer place. You’re looking at who vouched for them, and what they promised you’d find.
That’s the whole idea. Everything else is in service of it.
Capture that keeps up
Recommendations arrive mid-conversation, and one you don’t log is one you lose. So logging has to be faster than the moment it came in.
Say “Log a book in Nod” out loud and it’s saved, with nothing to set up first. Send a link straight in from Messages or Safari with the share sheet. Tap a widget on your home screen. However you come in, A Nod wants the title, the person, and the reason — then fills in the cover and the details quietly afterwards, so you never stop the conversation to look something up.
Everything you save is searchable from Spotlight, not only inside the app.
When three people say the same thing
Taste converges, and a list can’t show you that. A Nod can.
When a second and a third person recommend the same film, it tells you, because independent agreement is the strongest signal you will ever get about whether something is for you.
It keeps the record running the other way too. After you’ve finished a few things, you can see whose recommendations have actually landed. Not who talks about books the most. Who has been right.
Tell them they were right
Finishing something good is only half of it. The other half is going back to the person who sent you there.
A Nod builds a card with their words beside your verdict, ready to send back to them — or to post anywhere, if you’d rather tell everyone at once. It’s the part of the loop most apps forget, and it’s the part that keeps people recommending things to you.
Yours alone
There is no A Nod account. There is no A Nod server. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no ads.
What you save stays on your iPhone and syncs through your own private iCloud, where only you can read it. Almost Right Creative cannot see your recommendations, the people you got them from, or what you made of them. Not as a promise, but because the app was built with nowhere for any of that to go.
Contacts are read only if you ask, only to put a face to a name, and never leave your phone.
